The other day, I went out with my good friend Mike, we went to a club he never went to and he told me at the end of the night: “It’s the first time we don’t get laid and still have fun.”
Oh I love hearing that! Now let me ask you a question, what makes it enjoyable when you go out? Why do you even go out? To satisfy your neediness, or to amplify your alive-ness?
What made it fun that night is that we were interacting and dancing with a bunch of girls, even kissing, even though nothing else happened afterwards. We were simply connecting with many people. What happens after is irrelevant, we were enjoying the present moment.
I’m reading The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People right now and it talks about this in habit 6: synergy. When there is a low trust climate, there is compromise and 1 + 1 = 1?. When there is a high trust climate, there is synergy and 1 + 1 = 5 or more. In other words, when you create a climate of trust around you by not trying to get things from people and by feeling whole, your energy amplifies with the people you connect with, and it multiplies the alive-ness. The same happens when you randomly happen to be in such an environment.
It also explains why I can easily stay with roommates in Barcelona yet I’d rather live by myself in Montreal or Paris. The difference is compromise vs synergy, which is a direct result of the trust and consciousness level.
